CAPTAIN'S CORNER

Kingfish: Water temperatures are creeping down toward the magical 70s. We need another cool front before kingfish action really takes hold. Water temperatures are hovering just above 80 on the beaches and are unseasonably warm offshore.

Recent catches: Reports from along the beaches and Egmont have been inconsistent. One day, you can catch a handful of kings. But the next day, they are nowhere to be found. This is normal for the early migration patterns. Many kings are and searching for a place to settle. Each day will get better as we head toward 70-degree water. Some caught kings off Blind Pass and the piers along southern beaches. We caught ours in 60 feet while grouper fishing. It's unclear where to go for the next few days.
