Teachers in Hillsborough County like the pay raise they are getting - enough to ratify the new contract by 96 percent.
The pay bump, which totals $28-million districtwide, amounts to raises of approximately 4 percent.
There's also good news for educational support personnel, who are represented by Hillsborough Classroom Teachers Association but not included in the employees who benefitted from a state law to raise teacher pay. The union bargained on behalf of all 20,000 employees, not the just 15,000 teachers.
As a result, classroom aides and school clerical workers are also getting more money. And there will be three tiers of exceptional student education paraprofessionals, depending on their qualifications, instead of one.
