Northwest Hillsborough County soon will be home to one of the nation's largest outdoor retailers. Gander Mountain is nearing a grand opening of its first Tampa Bay store, at 11655 W Hillsborough Ave., in the Bayport Commons Shopping Center.
The retailer plans to open next month and has begun hiring at gandermountain.com/careers.
With headquarters in St. Paul, Minn., Gander Mountain features local, regional and national brands of hunting, fishing, boating, camping, marine and outdoor products. There are more than 100 locations in 24 states. The Tampa store marks the sixth Gander Mountain store in Florida.
The Tampa location will be 30,000 square feet and occupy a former Best Buy store space.
"I am proud to welcome another major business coming to our community that will have an incredible impact on our local economy," Hillsborough County Commissioner Ken Hagan said in a news release.

Orange Theory fitness opens
Another new tenant at Bayport Commons is Orange Theory Fitness.
The gym, at 11721 W Hillsborough Ave., focuses on personalized circuit training workouts. Each workout at Orange Theory is one hour and done in a group setting. Each participant's caloric burn is monitored. A personal trainer keeps the group accountable and motivated. There are no contracts to join Orange Theory. Users sign up for sessions online on an as-needed basis.
The gym takes the cardio concept to the hilt with a marketing strategy that places mysterious orange bikes throughout the neighborhood where a new gym is set to open. Orange Theory Fitness Westchase owners Frank and Martha Lugo began placing orange bikes throughout the neighborhood over the summer to create a buzz.
"We've had great feedback from the community," Martha Lugo said. "We opened Sept. 6 and we ended up with more than 100 members in that one month."
The Westchase location marks the fifth to open in the Tampa Bay area. There are more than 171 Orange Theory Fitness studios across the country.
Orange Theory Fitness Westchase is open from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday and 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Visit orangetheoryfitness.com.
