ST. PETERSBURG GUARD GRIFFIN CHOOSES LOUISIANA TECH FOR BASKETBALL

St. Petersburg's Dayon Griffin announced via Twitter that he has committed to Louisiana Tech, the second Pinellas County player from the Class of 2014 to join the Bulldogs in three months. Griffin, a 6-foot-1 guard, averaged 17 points, six rebounds and four steals as a junior last season in leading the Green Devils to the Class 8A region final. He said he picked Louisiana Tech "because they play my style of play, they play fast. They let their guards play and show their talent. That's the kind of program I wanted to be in." The Bulldogs have had success landing county players. Former Boca Ciega standout Kenny Smith helped Louisiana Tech go 27-7 last season and reach the second round of the NIT after upsetting FSU. In September, Lakewood senior Jacobi Boykins, a 6-4 shooting guard, committed to the Bulldogs. The comfort of having players he knew helped Griffin with his decision. "Knowing Kenny and Jacobi had something to do with it," he said. "They wanted me to come, but at the same time they wanted me to go where I fit and can get on the court."
