Two-legged Dog on beach now a viral sensation
A dog in Washington state has no rear legs, but he can balance enough to run on only his front legs, as millions of people have seen in a YouTube video. Duncan was born with deformed rear legs that were amputated to remove the dead weight. The 9-month-old boxer belongs to Amanda Giese and Gary Walters, who run a nonprofit animal rescue called Panda Paws Rescue out of their home in the Clark County community of Felida. The Columbian reports the couple took Duncan to Rockaway Beach on the Oregon coast in March and took the video of Duncan racing across the sand and chasing sticks. Giese says they initially tried to fit Duncan in a special wheelchair, but he hated it and can do without it.

Senator reports to wrong hearing
Sen. Dan Coats, R-Ind., was prepped for an appropriations hearing on the defense budget when he took his turn Wednesday afternoon, flipping papers on his lap, reading from them and commending the witness for his department's prompt response to a letter Coats had sent about a military accounting office in his home state. It was all fairly innocuous except for one problem: Coats was in the completely wrong hearing complimenting the wrong witness. After he'd finished a lengthy opening to his question, a staffer slipped Coats a piece of paper. Coats read it to himself, looked up, and said, "I just got a note saying I'm at the wrong hearing." Coats is on the Appropriations committee, but showed up at the wrong subcommittee.) "I'll go try to find out where I'm supposed to be," Coats said. Coats did find his place, in a hearing room down the hall an hour later.

Priest: Toys can lead to 'dark side'
A Roman Catholic priest has touched off a controversy in Poland after news media quoted him describing toys like LEGO's Monster Fighters as tools of Satan that lead children to the "dark side." The Super Express tabloid quoted the Rev. Slawomir Kostrzewa urging parents to dump the LEGO series as well as Mattel's Monster High. The remarks Sunday in Wolsztyn touched off discussion in predominantly Catholic Poland, which holds priests in high esteem. Mainstream newspapers seized on the report, as did state radio. Parents took to Twitter to mock Kostrzewa.
