Major League Baseball's annual Pitch, Hit and Run competition is coming to Tom Varn Park in Brooksville on May 4.

Starting at 10 a.m., boys and girls ages 7 to 14 will compete in the local competition for the right to advance to the region competition and the national event, which will take place on All-Star Weekend in July.

OASIS GOLF TOURNAMENT: Oasis Pregnancy Care Centers will have its fifth annual golf tournament on April 26 at Sherman Hills Golf & Country Club in Ridge Manor West.

Registration will begin at 7:30 a.m., with the shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. for the four-person scramble. The entry fee - $360 for a foursome or $90 for an individual - includes a golf cart, along with lunch provided by Hungry Harry's Bar-B-Que, raffles and awards. Sponsorship opportunities are available.

HI-C FOOTBALL CAMP: The Hernando County Parks and Recreation Department will hold the fourth annual Horace "Hi-C" Copeland Football Camp on May 17 at Anderson Snow Park in Spring Hill.

From 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., children ages 5 to 16 will take part in a noncontact football clinic. The camp will provide interactive football drills, life lessons and lunch. It is free to the first 300 registrants, and shirts can be preordered for $10.

The event is be hosted by Horace Copeland, a former professional football player who played wide receiver in the NFL for seven seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Miami Dolphins and Oakland Raiders.

WEST HERNANDO SENIOR SOFTBALL: The West Hernando Athletic Club for Seniors is entering the final month of its softball season.

C's Pub (29-10) has a six-game lead in first place, followed by Rookie's Sports Bar/AFG Insurance (24-17), Minerva's/Bar Envy (22-16), Economy Insurance (13-27), and American Legion Post 186 (10-28).

On April 18, WHACS will host a multileague tournament consisting of teams from the three Spring Hill senior leagues. Sponsors are participating, and more are welcome.

WHACS will be running a summer league program for the first time, with games to be played in June and July. Sign-up and draft dates will be announced at a later date.

The 55-and-older league will play on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings at Veterans Memorial Park in Spring Hill.

2014 COMMUNITY PARTNERS 5K GATOR RUN: Challenger K-8 School of Science and Mathematics in Spring Hill will have its 5K Gator Run on April 12 at Anderson Snow Park in Spring Hill.

There will be a 5K starting at 8:30 a.m. and a 1-mile fun run starting at 9:30 a.m. The first 250 registered participants are guaranteed T-shirts and medals.

The advance entry fee for either event is $20. On race day, the fee is $25. The fee for Hernando County students is $15. An entire family can also enter for $20, including one T-shirt and one finisher medal.

NATURE COAST TENNIS FOUNDATION DOUBLES TOURNAMENT: The Nature Coast Tennis Foundation will host its third annual Cinco de Mayo Adult Mixed Doubles Tennis Tournament on May 3 and 4 at Delta Woods Park in Spring Hill.

The event will feature two divisions. The B Division is for players rated lower than a 7.0 combined, while the A Division is for those rated 7.0 or higher combined. The cost is $20 per player; the event is open to all adults, including non-USTA members.

SPRINGSTEAD BASKETBALL CAMP: The Springstead High School boys basketball program will hold its second annual All-Skills Basketball Camp this summer.

The Eagles' coaching staff will conduct two sessions, running Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The dates will be from June 16 to 19 and July 14 to 17.

Open to all boys and girls going entering second to seventh grades, the cost is $80 per camper or $65 for children of Hernando County School Board employees. There are also discounts for multiple children and multiple sessions. All campers must bring their own lunch.

'GIRLS NIGHT OUT' SHOOTING: The Hernando Sportsman's Club, 16121 Commercial Way, north of Weeki Wachee, has a new "Girls Night Out" trap shooting group.

The women's group will meet from 5 to 9 p.m. the first Thursday night of every month at the trap range.

For those who have never tried trap shooting or don't have their own shotgun, the club will provide 20-gauge shotguns for the group to use. Those using a club shotgun should bring at least two boxes of 20-gauge ammunition, ear plugs and eye protection. Participants may use their own guns.

There is a trap range fee of $5 for members and $8 for nonmembers. The fee covers two games of trap. Everyone is welcome.
