FINSTER, Mary Ellen age 75, was reunited in Heaven with her husband, Joseph, April 5, 2014. Born in Detroit, MI, to Maurice and Mary Fouracre and raised in Tenafly, NJ. Mary Ellen and Joseph were married 46 years, now the high school sweethearts will gratefully celebrate eternity together. GEORGE, Roy 91, of Brandon, passed away on April 6, 2014. He was born on Dec. 2, 1922 in Logan, WV. He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Marjorie George. He is survived by his sons, Greg (Trisha) George, Jeff (Robin) George; and dau-ghter, Lynda (Allen) McClure; his grandchildren, Shaunessy, Heather, Christopher, Alyssya, Destiny, Rayne, Brook-Lynne, Brandie, Kyle, Tyler & Garrett; great-grandchildren, Caitlin, Daylon, Tayla, Olivia, Kinsley & Kingston; and niece, Sandra Bigler. GOBES, Francis E. "Frank" 85, passed away Saturday, April 5, 2014. He was born on Feb. 5, 1929 in Jamaica Queens, NY. He was a graduate of Villanova University and also received an MBA from NYU. He served in the Korean War as a U.S. Marine officer and retired from IBM after a long career in marketing and management. He lived a life of community service, serving as a lieutenant governor of the capital district of the Kiwanis Club, volunteering at United Way charities and Sun City Chamber of Commerce among many others. He was a devout Catholic and lector at his church and most recently was a member of the Espiritu Santo parish in Safety Harbor, FL. He is survived by three children, Sheila (Jeff), Frank (Gisele) and Aileen; and three grandchildren, Nicholas, Carina, and Brianna; and brother, Jim Gobes. Frank was preceded in death by his wife of more than 50 years, Sheila. GRANDLIENARD, Travis David, 28, of St. Petersburg, died Friday, April 4, 2014 at Bayfront Hospital. He was born and raised in St. Petersburg. He was Christian. He enjoyed sports, including baseball, football, and basketball. A lifelong fan of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, he spent the day with Mike Williams and the rest of the Bucs in December 2010. HANSKAT, John Edward 85, best known as a "happy camper" with a loveable wit, died suddenly at his St. Petersburg home March 20, 2014. Born 1928 in Chicago, he came to Pass-a-Grille, St Pete Beach, at an early age. There he attended Sunshine School, and was a graduate of St. Petersburg High School, where he earned a track scholarship to the University of Florida. A member of Sigma Chi Fraternity, he received a degree in civil engineering, then served in the air force at Mountain Home, Idaho. He worked with Bushnell Steel in Jacksonville, then joined Ceco Corp. as district, then regional manager in Detroit, and in Miami. His career next took him to George Hyman Construction in Bethesda, MD. He retired in 1990 when his late wife Judy was diagnosed with terminal emphysema, and they moved to Jacksonville, Ore., where she died two years later. John returned to St. Petersburg, where he married Kitty Morrison Frease who died in 2006, also of emphysema. Although widowed twice, John still had a wonderful life. At the time of his death, he had been married for seven years to the former Patsy Baker, who sharpened her bridge skills because that was his hobby, and he became proficient at golf, as that was her hobby. Together, they toured the country visiting family and friends, dividing their "home" time between St. Petersburg and Tryon, NC. "He was special," said longtime friend Marilyn Latham Mathis. "He was a good friend to everyone. Wherever he was, he fit in.." "He put sunshine in peoples' lives," said Tinker McKee. In addition to Patsy, John is survived by daughter Cynthia LeVee, sons Randy and Charles, five grandsons and two great-grandchildren. MOORE, Frank 94, passed away on April 4, 2014. Frank moved to the Tampa Bay Area from New Brunswick, NJ in the 1970's. He proudly served in the United States Navy. While in New Jersey, he was a member of the River Yacht Club, the president of the Middlesex County Employees Credit Union, and worked in law enforcement. Frank enjoyed golfing and boating. MOUSAW, Valerie Lee 55, died from cancer on Thursday, 3 April 2014, at her residence in New Port Richey. Valerie is survived by her husband, Charles R. Mousaw Jr.; daughter, Michele Renee Mousaw of New Port Richey; son, Bryan Michael (Deanna) Mousaw of New Port Richey; mother, Dawn Simmons of Largo; brother, Lawrence Simmons of Largo; sister, Rene Teague of Dunellon; brother, William D. Simmons (Kathy) of Tampa; and grandson, Ethan Thomas Mousaw of New Port Richey. She was predeceased by her granddaughter Wren Mousaw, daughter Emily Mousaw and father, William J. Simmons. Valerie was born in Walden, NY and graduated Valley Central High School in 1976. She served in the U.S. Navy from 1976 to 1981. She and her husband were married in 1979 after meeting at U.S. Naval Facility Bermuda. She supported her husband's 20 year navy career serving in Adak, AK, Keflavik, Iceland, Washington, DC, Virginia Beach, VA before retiring to Florida in 1997. Throughout her career, Valerie excelled at a variety of demanding positions in the printing, construction, housekeeping, bowling alley operations businesses, and most recently mobile home community management of several communities in central Florida and Alabama. Valerie enjoyed time with her family and close friends, the beach, traveling, bird watching, gardening, crafts and ceramics. At Valerie's request, there will not be a public service. However, her family is planning a celebration of life in her honor in the very near future. SMITH, Jonathan D. 74, of Pensacola, passed away March 26, 2014. Jonathan was born Feb. 26, 1940 in Jackson MS. Although he resided in Pensacola, he lived many years in Pasco County and practiced law in Pasco and Hernando Counties. Jonathan was an active clergy and choir member at Saint Mary's Episcopal Church in Dade City. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle, scuba diving, and traveling. He also took great pride in being a father and grandfather. He is survived by his mother, Ellen Dickson Smith; sister, Carol Smith Veach (Ron Veach); daughters, Caitlin Smith Mah-aney (Justin Mahaney), Marisa Smith; son, Randall Smith (Melissa Smith); granddaught-ers, Lily Smith and Harper Mahaney; and grandson, Jackson Smith. SMITH-HIGHTOWER, Tracey Elaine was born to Willie (deceased) and Mary (Simpson) Hightower on a beautiful morning Feb. 10, 1962 in Miami. She began her education at Carol City Elementary, graduated from Carol City Senior High and completed two years of college at Tallahassee Community College. Tracey and Byron Smith were married at her parents home, and from their union were born 2 children, Tynae E. (Smith) Jones of Tampa, and Terrell C. Smith of Lauderhill, FL. As a youth, Tracey was baptized and became a member of Greater New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church in Miami. She rededicated herself to God later in life at First Baptist Church of College Hill in Tampa, where she was a faithful member. Her favorite pastimes were gardening, taking pictures and cooking. Tracey was a very charitable person. She willingly helped whomever she encountered in need; be it with food, clothing, helping hand, money or just a listening ear and her beautiful smile. TAAFEE, Malcolm Gene 56, of Tampa, passed peacefully April 5, 2014, after a courageous battle with lung cancer. Born Sept. 8, 1957, in The Bronx, NY, and graduated from the Ohio State University, where he was elected Student Government President. He went on to successful careers in investment banking, finance, and hotel property investment-management. Taaffe served as Board Member for the United Nations Association of the United States of America and Board Member for the Tampa Bay Committee on Foreign Relations. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church where he served as usher. Malcolm was a loving father who was preceded in death by his oldest daughter, Mary Grace. Survived by son, Gene Taaffe; daughters, Olivia and Gloria Taaffe; his children's mother, Mary Bruce Johnston; mother, Theresa Taaffe; siblings, Francis Taaffe, Jean (Les) Jones, and Joseph (Jen) Taaffe; his fiancée, Amy Ruggiero, and many nieces and nephews. TATUM, David Lewis 54, of Tampa, went to be with the Lord April 1, 2014. He and his twin sister, MC were born in Rapid City, SD June 14, 1959 when his father was in the Air Force and stationed at Ellsworth AFB. He was a longtime resident of Tampa since his father's retirement from the Air Force in 1987. David is survived by his father, Walter; his brother, Walter, III (Paulette); sisters, Mary Carroll (John), and Grace DeLaughter (Thomas); a niece, Brooke Manning; nephews, Rodney Jenkins (Dody) and Christopher Brenner; and grandniece, Eden Jenkins. David was preceded in death by his mother, Noel Carroll Tatum in August, 2013. During his father's last assignment in Hawaii 1983-87, David worked for the Corps of Engineers at Ft. Shafter and later at Goodwill Industries. After we moved back to Tampa in early 1988, he went to work at Maas Brothers for several years and was selected as Employee of the Month in Oct. 1990, and was employed there until suffering a disabling stroke in 1994. He then worked at MacDonald Training Center in Tampa for a number of years. David loved bowling and was a great piano player and enjoyed flying with his Dad, especially in Hawaii. His illnesses go all the way back to 1974 when at the age of 14 he was diagnosed with a brain tumor. "Time and again, David faced difficulties with unusual courage, largely stemming from his faith in Jesus Christ. He inspired and showed love to all who knew him." THOMAS, Frederick Douglas departed from this life Wednesday, April 2, 2014, at Florida Hospital Tampa. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, April 9, at 11 am, at Ray Williams Memorial Chapel, 301 North Howard Ave., with Minister Sandra McDuffie, officiating. Interment will follow in Orange Hill Cemetery. Frederick Douglas Thomas was born on Nov. 11, 1940 in Hillsbo-rough County to the late Eula and Christopher Thomas. Believing Jesus Christ is Lord, Frederick was baptized in the Methodist faith, and was educated in the public schools of Hillsborough County. As a young man, Frederick moved to Detroit, MI, where he was employed in the Hospital System. Returning to Tampa, he worked and retired from the City of Tampa Sanitation Department. He was also the caregiver for his mother until her death. Frederick possessed a sweet spirit and an humble heart. He enjoyed laughing with family, cooking, and all the simple things life had to offer. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Willie Mae Townsend and Christine McCarter; two brothers, Goliath Davis Jr., and Eugene Thomas. Survived by two brothers, Rodney Thomas and Gregory Thomas, Tampa; sister, Sandra McDuffie, Charlotte, NC; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
