-- The Mahaffey Theater will on Aug. 8 host the Memphis Music Fest, a show by Booker T. Jones, the Bar-Kays and William Bell. Tickets are $39-$69, and they go on sale Friday. Click here.

-- What the what? Platinum-selling pop singer Jon Secada will perform the National Anthem before the Tampa Bay Rowdies' home opener against FC Edmonton on Saturday night at Al Lang Stadium in St. Petersburg. The show also includes a free postgame concert by Scottish bagpipe group the Red Hot Chili Pipers. Sounds like a surreal evening of soccer and live music.

-- Ybor City is preparing for a big, heavy metal festival. The Southern Darkness Fest is coming to the Orpheum and Crowbar on Aug. 23 with a lineup that includes Pelican, Black Tusk, Zoroaster, Lord Mantis and many more.
