LHP Matt Moore saw noted specialist Dr. James Andrews today, but the Rays there will be further evaluation and discussion before a decision is made on whether he needs surgery on his sore elbow.
"It needs to be looked at a little bit more deeply because it's not a slam dunk surgery right now,'' manager Joe Maddon said.
Moore had a more detailed MRI - involving the injection of dye to provide higher contrast - on Wednesday in Pensacola and the Rays planned to review the results with Andrews tonight and then have a fuller discussion on Thursday. Even if they opt for surgery, it likely wouldn't take place for several days - and definitely not Thursday, Maddon said.
"What (executive VP Andrew Friedman) wanted to do was discuss it in more depth tomorrow based on the results as we get them,'' Maddon said. "We need to get all the facts and see how we want to proceed with this, see if surgery is necessary, if it's not necessary, we're still waiting to find out.''
Among the questions are how much his ulnar collateral ligament is torn, and how much damage is new versus existing. Part of that process is comparing Wednesday's MRI with past ones.
