The Brass Tap closes and the owners of the steak house promise something unheard of here.

After a very brief life, downtown's Brass Tap closed this weekend. The historic former YWCA at 653 Second Ave. S opened at the end of October with Rococo Steak on one side and the craft beer concept on the other. Brass Tap intends to move to another location in St. Petersburg, and nationally the company aims to expand enormously, quadrupling the number of existing locations in Florida over the next several years and adding dozens of franchises in the rest of the country.

Although Rococo did sell a whole lot of sliders at Brass Tap (Brass Tap locations generally don't offer food, but partner with nearby restaurants), the marriage wasn't seamless. Caledon Concepts, parent company of Ceviche Tapas Bar & Restaurant as well as Rococo Steak, has announced that it will introduce a third concept to the brand in the vacated Brass Tap space.

Joe Orsino, Caledon's CEO, was not yet willing to give details about the new restaurant, but said, "We wanted to expand and do more food in that building. We're really going to take the St. Pete dining scene to a new level by doing something that doesn't exist yet in the city."

Construction on the project will begin this spring and Caledon's new concept is slated to open in late 2014.
