After more than 40 years, the director of the Florida Strawberry Festival resigned this week.
A former radio broadcaster, the aptly named Al Berry began volunteering for the Plant City festival in 1971 before becoming part of its 14-member board of directors. During his tenure, the festival grew to an 11-day event featuring popular country acts.
Phil Waldron, a former city manager for Plant City, will fill Berry's position on the board. He has been associate director for 16 years.
