THREE DRIVERS SOUGHT IN EARLY MORNING CRASH

TAMPA

The Florida Highway Patrol is looking for the drivers of three vehicles who fled the scene of a fatal crash on Fowler Avenue early Saturday.

Amari A. Williams, 30, of Thonotosassa was driving a 1985 Chevrolet Camaro west on Fowler, east of Interstate 75, at 3:15 a.m. when he lost control and collided with a sport utility vehicle, troopers said. The impact caused the Camaro to overturn, and Williams was ejected onto the road, troopers said.

The SUV left the scene.

Two passersby stopped to help Williams when two more vehicles traveling westbound struck him, troopers said. Both of those vehicles also fled the scene.

Williams died from his injuries.

Witnesses described the first vehicle as a white SUV - and hours after the crash, an abandoned 1997 GMC truck was found off of Fletcher Avenue. Troopers say it was the first vehicle struck by the Camaro.

The search continues for the two vehicles that struck Williams. Any witnesses are asked to contact the FHP at (813) 631-4020 or Crime Stoppers of Tampa Bay at 1-800-873-8477.

An honor guard joined the family of Sgt. 1st Class Daniel Ferguson to greet the soldier's casket Friday at Tampa International Airport.

A private funeral was held Saturday morning in Lakeland, where Ferguson's parents live. Ferguson will be buried at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell. Gov. Rick Scott ordered the U.S. and state flags to be flown at half-staff Saturday at the Florida Capitol, Polk County Courthouse and Mulberry City Hall.

Ferguson was one of three people killed in the April 2 shooting spree. He died while barricading a door, keeping the gunman from pushing into a room where others could have been killed.
