17-year-old was arrested early Saturday morning, accused of driving the wrong way on northbound Interstate 75 while under the influence of alcohol, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The driver, whose name has not been released because he is a juvenile, was traveling south near milepost 279 in Wesley Chapel in the inside northbound lane at speeds between 55 and 75 mph just after 4 a.m., troopers said.
Responding to calls by other motorists, troopers located the driver and were able to stop his Mazda RX-8 just north of Fletcher Avenue.
The driver, from Dade City, initially refused to exit the car and was forcibly removed and arrested, troopers said. He was later charged with driving under the influence, resisting without violence and possession of marijuana, troopers said. His blood alcohol level was 0.14, which is more than 0.08, the level at which the state presumes impairment.
He also received several non-criminal traffic charges, troopers said.
