BLUES HEAD INTO PLAYOFFS WITH 6TH STRAIGHT LOSS

ST. LOUIS - Without Jimmy Howard, Johan Franzen and Daniel Alfredsson, the Red Wings warmed up for the playoffs with a win.

They sent the sagging Blues, minus even more big names, limping into the postseason.

"I don't know if you can evaluate much about the game," Detroit coach Mike Babcock said after a 3-0 victory Sunday. "But it's always nice to win it."

The Blues had been in contention for the No. 1 overall seed but lost their last six, and Sunday's loss cost them a chance at winning the Central Division. The Avalanche clinched on a tiebreaker before playing at Anaheim on Sunday night.

Minus three of their top five scorers, their top faceoff man and two top defensemen, the Blues were shut out for the second straight game and third time during the slump.

"There's no point dwelling on stuff. Nothing's going to change," said forward Alexander Steen, who led the Blues with 33 goals and 62 points. "It's the way we finished the season, that's all. Now we have to regroup and get ready for the first round."

Daniel Sedin stretchered off: Canucks forward Daniel Sedin was in stable condition at a Vancouver hospital after being taken off the ice on a stretcher following a hit from behind by the Flames' Paul Byron in Vancouver's 5-1 win. Sedin, who scored twice in the first period, was injured in the second.

Top scorers: The Penguins' Sidney Crosby won the Art Ross Trophy as the league's top scorer with 117 points, 17 more than the Ducks' Ryan Getzlaf. The Capitals' Alex Ovechkin won the Rocket Richard Trophy as the league's top goal scorer with 51. He was the only player to top 50.
