Rubio spokesman Conant headed to Iowa to help Joni Ernst

Alex Conant, a top spokesman for Sen. Marco Rubio, has gone to Iowa to join Joni Ernst's campaign for Senate.

"As you know, Marco was an early supporter of hers and his team is doing everything we can to help out," Conant tells the Buzz. "It'll be great to have a woman, soldier, and independent leader like her in the Senate."

Conant expects to return to the Senate after the campaign. His wife, Caitlin, who is Sen. Rob Portman's communications director, is also in Iowa for Ernst. Ernst is facing Democrat Bruce Braley in one of the key matchups of the midterms.

Another member of Rubio's team, political strategist Todd Harris, is a media consultant for Ernst. It obviously doesn't hurt Rubio, who is exploring a run for president in 2016, to have such roots in Iowa. Rubio will likely head back to the state to campaign with Ernst this month. Ernst's campaign released a video about the race today.
