Charlie Crist's running mate, Annette Taddeo, has challenged Lt. Gov. Carlos Lopez-Cantera to a debate sponsored by a Miami Spanish-language TV station. Taddeo's challenge also includes an invitation for a joint appearance at the CBS affiliate in Miami.

Both candidates have Latino roots. Lopez-Cantera was born in Spain and is the first Hispanic lieutenant governor. Taddeo was born in Colombia to an American father and Colombian mother. Technically her last name is Taddeo-Goldstein, but she drops her married name on the campaign trail.

The Rick Scott campaign has not said whether Lopez-Cantera has accepted these invitations.

Here is the full press release from the Crist campaign:

Today, Annette Taddeo accepted an invitation to a debate with Lieutenant Governor Carlos Lopez-Cantera sponsored by Mira TV at Miami Dade College and an invitation from CBS Miami's Jim DeFede for a joint appearance on CBS Miami. Annette issued the following statement:

"I'm proud to accept these invitations to debate Lieutenant Governor Lopez-Cantera about the important issues of Florida's future. All Floridians deserve to know exactly what we'll do to support education and make life easier and more affordable for middle-class seniors and families.

"I encourage Carlos to accept this invitation - and to agree to more than one debate – so we get the chance to have this important conversation."
