HAVE AN EYE ON A SCHOOL PROGRAM?

Get a closer look at magnets, fundamentals and academies.

The application period isn't until January for Pinellas County magnet programs, fundamental schools and high school career academies. But it's not too early for interested families to start considering which programs they might like and plan a visit.

The school district will hold three Parent Information Sessions, two countywide information fairs and a variety of Discovery Nights at individual schools.

The Parent Information Sessions will address the application process. They will be held from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. in three school auditoriums:

- Nov. 4 at Boca Ciega High, 924 58th St. S, Gulfport.

- Nov. 6 at Countryside High, 3000 State Road 580, Clearwater.

- Nov. 10 at Pinellas Park High, 6305 118th Ave. N, Largo

The two information fairs are designed to give parents and prospective students a chance to talk with school representatives about their programs. One will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Nov. 13 at Gibbs High, 850 34th St. S, St. Petersburg; the other will take place from 9 a.m. to noon Nov. 15 at Pinellas Park High, 6305 118th Ave. N, Largo.

The schedule for Discovery Nights, where families can see the programs up close and talk to teachers, will be released soon. They will be held from mid-November to early January.

The application period for all special programs will run from Jan. 7-16. Families will be applying for seats for the 2015-16 school year.
