VENICE 57, DIXIE HOLLINS 27

The District 6A-7 matchup between Venice and Dixie Hollins seemed likely to be lopsided in favor of the Indians. And with the score 22-0 after the first quarter, the game was never in doubt for Venice (6-0). Dixie Hollins lost its second straight.

KEY DRIVE: If there was any thought that Dixie Hollins secured momentum going into halftime, Venice took just 33 seconds to get its first score of the second half.

PLAY OF THE GAME: After the Indians got a safety to make it 9-0 in the first, Noah Montgomery returned the ensuing kick 78 yards for a score.

STAR OF THE GAME: Venice freshman quarterback Bryce Carpenter continued his stellar year by executing the offense flawlessly. He rushed for 108 yards and two scores, while throwing for 194 yards and two touchdowns.

STAT OF THE GAME: Six different Indians found the end zone. Carpenter and fullback Eric Imperante scored multiple times.

FINAL WORD: "The last guy with that much (poise) was Trey Burton. He's a real quiet kid but the team saw what he could do and that he can do it at a really high level." - Venice coach John Peacock on Carpenter, and referring to Burton, who went on to play at Florida.
