WALLIS, Margaret (Wilson) Miss Peggie Miss Peggie Wallis, beloved ballet teacher, impresario and inspiration for a generation of girls in northern Pinellas County, passed onto another stage Friday, Aug. 29, 2014 in Bentonville, AR. New Zealand born Margaret Wilson took passage to London at the end of World War II. Classically trained in dance at the Royal Academy, she appeared in several productions in the United Kingdom. Eventually she found her way to Clearwater and to her true calling. She established her iconic Miss Peggies Dance Academy on South Highland Avenue where it became the center of the lives of hundreds of her little pickles. The high standard of Peggie Wallis caring instruction enabled numbers of local children to excel in annual examinations given by the Royal Academy of Dancing of which she was a lifetime member. Every June, Ruth Eckerd Hall would fill to capacity for the spectacular performances that she produced to showcase her students. In addition to the precision that ballet demands, her lessons imparted discipline and self-confidence; her graduates have gone on into the world with lives enhanced by their experiences. Peggie Wallis was instrumental in bringing the Atlanta Ballet to Clearwater to perform the Nutcracker. She founded Florida West Ballet, and when she and her cherished husband, Mr. Bob, returned to her New Zealand homeland, they left a community which they had enriched beyond measure. When the Wallises came back to the US, they settled in Arkansas where they established another school and influenced yet another generation of ballerinas. She was preceded in death by her parents, Myrtle and Thomas Wilson; her sister, Alice Dalziel; her brother, Gordon Wilson; and two stepdaughters, Connie Nebe and Vickie Wallis. Peggie is survived by her husband, Robert Wallis; her daughter, Peggie Burns; her son, Robert Burns; and nine grandchildren.
