POOLSIDE COLOR

Apool deck can be completely calm and serene, or it can be a great place to unleash your wilder side by adding a splash of color. As with most design elements, adding a single bold element - in this case, color - can be far more effective than trying to add too many. The poolside palette here is muted shades of grays and taupe. The pool itself is a traditional "swimming pool blue," with a mosaic water-line tile in tones of Mediterranean aqua, blues and topaz. What better color to accent this than a vivid orange? Since orange is the complementary color to the blues of the pool, and it blends beautifully with the taupe and gray, it brings a life to the accessories without seeming out of place. Surrounded by soft shades of green, this pool area is as subtle as it is exciting. Since the bold orange color was used sparingly on just a few pillows and planters, it would be easy and inexpensive to change these elements to a different color if the season - or a personal whim-should suggest doing so. Experiment with pattern and color in your pool area. As is the case inside, remember that less is more, but you just might be able to get away with just a little more than less here!
