MAN PLEADS GUILTY TO SEX TRAFFICKING

A 41-year-old man accused of prostituting a 16-year-old girl last year pleaded guilty to sex trafficking in federal court Monday, the U.S. Attorney's Office said.

The girl told investigators last year that Gerald Eugene Mayham, 41, and Joel Raymond Nauta, 23, offered her marijuana, Xanax, alcohol and cocaine. The men then began prostituting the girl in her apartment complex, according to a federal complaint, and took her to other parts of Clearwater and Dunedin to have sex with men. The girl also told investigators that Mayham and Nauta threatened and physically assaulted her.

Mayham's sentencing hearing is scheduled for January. He faces up to life in prison.

Nauta pleaded guilty in April and will be sentenced in December, officials said.
