Bubba the Love Sponge back on the radio in Tampa and Orlando without his longtime co-host

Bubba the Love Sponge can once again be heard over the terrestrial airwaves in Tampa Bay.

The Tampa-based radio shock jock with a long history of controversies and lawsuits had been broadcasting over the Twitch streaming service and his own website since May, when he failed to come to a deal with the station WHBO-AM 1040, where his morning talk show had been broadcast most recently.

On Monday, Bubba returned to the air on three Tampa Bay stations, 98.3 FM, which has a signal that reaches Pinellas County, 96.7 FM, which can be picked up in Hillsborough County, and AM 820, which can be heard throughout Tampa Bay.

Tuesday morning, Bubba made his debut as the morning host on the recently purchased 660 AM and 105.5 FM stations in Orlando, which as of Monday had been re-branded Florida Man Radio with an all-new lineup.

In a news release, the stations’ new owners, JVC Media, wrote that on "Florida Man Radio there will be no topics off limits, including topics specifically about our on-air staff. Think sports, politics, pop culture. If you talk about it in your life or on social media, Florida Man Radio 660 AM and 105.5 FM will talk about it.”

The station will also feature host Shannon Burke, who worked with Bubba in the past, in the afternoon drive-time slot, and was on the air on 104.1 FM in Orlando for several years in the mid-2000s.

Bubba appeared on Burke’s show Monday evening, discussing the ways in which he has pared down his lifestyle from the days when he was making millions of dollars doing a syndicated show on regular radio, as well as another on Sirius satellite radio. Several months ago, the Tampa Bay Times reported Bubba’s radio studios near the Tampa International Airport were in foreclosure. Talking to Burke on the air Monday, Bubba said he had since sold the studios and leased them back from the new landlord.

The Bubba the Love Sponge Show will sound slightly different than last time it was on the radio in Florida. Mike “Manson” Waters departed the show in July, after working alongside Bubba since the mid-1990s, creating many of the show’s parody songs and voicing the character Ned.

The show recently added a female co-host who on the air goes by Janessa.
