Rays watch party? Places to watch the A’s wild-card game

You can watch the American League wild-card game from Oakland beginning at 8:09 tonight on ESPN, but what if you don’t have cable or a streaming subscription?

Charlotte Sports Park in Port Charlotte, where the Rays hold their Spring Training, will host a Wild Card Playoff Watch Party with free admission to the stadium beginning at 7 p.m. Fans can watch the game on the big screen from the stadium seats or bring a blanket to sit in the outfield. Food and drinks will be available for purchase.

The TradeWinds Resort in St. Pete Beach, which hosted beachside Rays watch parties throughout the season, will not be hosting a party for the wild-card game, and the Rays organization has not planned any “official” party for tonight’s game.

Sports bars across the region will surely have the game on, so the spots on the following list are by no means your only options, but here are some places in Tampa Bay that have announced a watch party.

Ferg’s, 1320 Central Ave., St. Petersburg: The giant sports bar across the street from Tropicana Field will start the Rays Playoff Watch Party at 6 p.m., when guests will receive a free Ferg’s “globe” koozie as well as a raffle ticket for prizes that include a Shock Top beach cruiser bicycle and tickets to an upcoming home playoff game, should the Rays beat the A’s and advance.

The Lure, 661 Central Ave. N, St. Petersburg, and 2402 S MacDill Ave., Tampa: The Rays Rally Party starts at 4 p.m. Specials at both locations include a dozen wings for $10, $4.50 draft beers, $6 cocktails and half-price bottles of wine.

Original Hooters, 2800 Gulf-to-Bay Blvd., Clearwater: The Rays’ flagship radio station WDAE will be broadcasting live from the original Hooters location starting at noon and right up until the game starts.

Park & Rec, 100 Fourth St. S, St. Petersburg: Half-off all snacks during the game, plus $6 Captain, Crown, Tito’s, Bombay Sapphire and Patron drinks. Thirty TVs showing the game with sound.

The Avenue, 330 First Ave. S, St. Petersburg: The Avenue will be serving up $5 burgers with a “TB” Rays logo branded on the bun and showing the game with sound. They’ll also have $5 drafts and mules and $4 “more cowbell" shots.

Cork’s Cigar Bar, 424 12th St. W, Bradenton: Free pizza during the game. Wear Rays gear and get a free draft beer.

The Galley, 27 Fourth St. N, St. Petersburg: The Galley will have the game volume up loud in both of its bars, “plus Oktoberfest food and drink specials.”
