Bayou Market & Cafe opens in St. Petersburg for dine-in, takeout crowd

David Bilyeu, the owner of Bayou Catering, debuted his latest project earlier this week.

Bayou Catering owner David Bilyeu has expanded his passion for food with a new project. Launched on Sept. 23 in St. Petersburg, Bayou Market & Cafe pays homage to the Cajun and Creole markets of Bilyeu’s native Baton Rouge, La.

The cafe at 6630 Central Ave., the former D’Mexican restaurant space, features daily and weekly specials cafeteria-style for lunch and dinner. Caribbean and Cajun dishes accompany vegetarian choices, plus soups, sandwiches and salads.

As for the market, take-and-bake items such as chicken and andouille jambalaya and crawfish pie are the focus alongside local beer and wine to go.

Bilyeu will continue to run Bayou Catering, a full-service catering company in the area for the past 10 or so years. You can place orders at Bayou Market & Cafe.

The market is open 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, while the cafe operates 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 4 to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday.
