Maybe you’ve purchased a pint or two at Publix or Whole Foods Market. Or perhaps you’ve tried it in other states, or nabbed free scoops when its truck tours came rolling through town in 2018 and 2019.

But those familiar with Jeni’s Spendid Ice Creams should enjoy this news: The beloved ice cream brand will bring two shops to Tampa this summer. One is planned for the Pearl apartment building at 305 W Palm Ave. in Tampa Heights, while the other is coming to the dining garden at Channel District hangout Sparkman Wharf, 615 Channelside Drive.

Both mark the first Florida locations for Jeni’s. The cult favorite’s more than 40 existing shops, where the house specialty is served by the scoop, are located in Ohio, Chicago, Atlanta, South Carolina, Los Angeles, St. Louis, North Carolina, Texas, Alabama and Washington, D.C.

Based in Columbus, Ohio, Jeni’s is known for its premium ice cream, offered in eclectic flavors like Brambleberry Crisp and Gooey Butter Cake, as much as its James Beard Award-winning founder and ice cream maven Jeni Britton Bauer. The cheerful Britton Bauer is the creative force behind the brand, which she founded in 2002, with a fondness for pastel pint containers.

“Our truck tour came through Tampa in 2018 and I completely fell in love with the city’s energy — the strong sense of community, the entrepreneurial spirit,” Britton Bauer said in a statement. “We couldn’t be more excited about opening at The Pearl and Sparkman Wharf.”
