How do you observe Mother’s Day while in coronavirus lockdown? We have some ideas.
This gift guide rounds up products from Tampa Bay businesses that you could order now to celebrate Mom on May 10. For most of these, you can pick them up and drop them off, or send them directly to Mom’s place. Options range from a wellness box and meal kits to a candle customized with her favorite scents.
Send a Fancy Free Nursery plant
Fancy Free Nursery has started delivering plants and pots to local doorsteps. Check out the Tampa Heights shop’s Instagram Stories to browse its selection. Once you see something Mom would love (maybe a baby monstera or an umbrella tree), message Fancy Free Nursery for pricing and details. (813) 260-0217. fancyfreenursery.com.
Cook a meal together
Many Tampa Bay restaurants sell meal kits, complete with raw ingredients that you transform into a meal at home. Why not nab a kit for yourself and for Mom to cook and eat together on video chat? And if you’re living with her at the moment, even better — just buy one kit for the both of you to whip up. A few to consider: St. Petersburg’s Il Ritorno, 449 Central Ave., offers $30 pasta meal kits featuring all the items you need, including fresh spaghetti and a recipe card. Order through Uber Eats or by phone. (727) 897-5900. Tampa’s Rooster & the Till, 6500 N Florida Ave., has launched a weekly Sunday Supper Club, which invites you to pick up a creative dinner package for four ($90) or two ($45) people every Sunday. Order online or by phone Monday through Wednesday. (813) 374-8940. roosterandthetill.com. And, if Mom’s a morning person, Tampa’s Datz, 2616 S MacDill Ave., fills $50 breakfast meal kits with ingredients like a pound of butter, a dozen eggs, six buttermilk biscuits, nine sausage links and a gallon of milk. Order online or by phone. (813) 831-7000. datztampa.com.
Make a Candle Pour creation using her favorite scents
To help Mom unwind and feel more calm during this uncertain time, take advantage of the Candle Pour’s custom candle experience. The Hyde Park Village store lets you create a soy wax candle on its website with more than 100 scents. Use up to four of Mom’s favorite smells — think sandalwood or baked bread — to design this unique gift, ranging in size from 8 to 30 ounces. To ship her a candle in time for the holiday, order online by May 5. In-store pickup requests must be in by May 7. Choose pickup or shipping at checkout. 734 S Village Circle, Tampa. (813) 284-0621. thecandlepour.com.

Ship a Paper Seahorse wellness box
Another idea for moms who wouldn’t mind finding a little extra peace right now is the “Little Box of Calm” wellness box. The Paper Seahorse in Tampa’s SoHo district loads this $59 care package with a gratitude journal, thank-you notes, a signature tea blend, a quartz crystal and other goods that promote relaxation. “We have thoughtfully designed this kit to take you from chaos to calm in just a few minutes a day,” reads the box’s description. If you plan to order online and send the present to Mom’s address, allow at least three days for out-of-state shipping (in-state could be faster). Porch pickup at the Paper Seahorse is available for locals, too. And bonus: The shop will wrap the box in a nice bag with tissue paper so you don’t have to. 211 S Howard Ave., Tampa. (813) 251-8096. paperseahorse.com.
Complete a craft together
The St. Petersburg, Tampa and Brandon locations of AR Workshop carry a number of DIY to-go kits. Snag one for you and Mom to finish together on video chat. A few of the take-and-make craft projects, which are available for purchase online from your nearest shop, include wooden letter tiles ($25 to $40), canvas tote bags ($15) and wooden plank signs ($25 to $45). Kits come with all materials. Pickup and delivery vary by location. arworkshop.com.
Send her a spa day from Cleanse Apothecary
Seminole Heights self-isolation spa day headquarters Cleanse Apothecary is actually still open, because they’re selling personal care items. But they are practicing CDC guidelines, wearing masks and gloves and only allowing a few people in at a time. They carry national brands including L’Occitane en Provence, Korres, Malin and a variety of personal and home fragrances. If you feel funny about going in, give them a call and they’ll create a custom set based on Mom’s likes and habits. They offer curbside pickup from 11:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily. 6500 N Florida Ave., Tampa. (813) 374-0305. cleanseapothecary.com.
Send a sampling of indie St. Pete with the Sunshine City Care Box
Five women-owned St. Petersburg businesses have teamed up to create the Sunshine City Care Box. The goodies inside include a pair of sterling silver heart stud earrings from Blossom and Shine; a burlap pouch made from recycled coffee bags printed with the phrase, “For the ♥ (love) of St. Pete” from Spring Green Handbags; a four-pack of St. Pete and Florida-themed stickers from Fox and Crow Paper Co.; three greeting cards from Playa Paper and a pound of coffee beans from Black Crow Coffee. The boxes are $79 and available to order from April 29-May 3. Free delivery in St. Petersburg only; by selecting the delivery option, packages will be delivered to your doorstep on May 10. Orders shipped outside of St. Petersburg won’t go out until May 12. blossomandshine.square.site.
Sweeten her day with William Dean Chocolates
Send Mom an assortment of the Belleair Bluffs-based chocolatier’s brightly colored and patterned artisan chocolates. (There is a leopard print one!) They look too pretty to eat, but they’re not. The boxes range from $13.50 to $75. There are other options, too, including chocolate-covered orange peel, candied ginger, chocolate bars and macadamia and coconut popcorn, all made at the shop. Mom will be in good company with a box of these: Whoopi Goldberg brought a box to Jimmy Fallon and the Roots on The Tonight Show a few years ago. Order online for shipping or curbside pickup from noon to 5 p.m. daily. 2790 West Bay Drive. (727) 593-0656. williamdeanchocolates.com.
Send a bouquet from Posies Flower Truck
In the Before Times, Posies Flower Truck would pull up to indie markets and let people create their own bouquets of unusual blooms. As of now, they can’t do that anymore, but they still deliver bouquets around Pinellas and Hillsborough counties. There are six different bouquet options that range from Basic Lovely to Premium Loveliest ($65 to $120), either wrapped or arranged. They also offer monthly and biweekly bouquet subscriptions ($75 to $180 per month), which would make a luxurious gift. Order online at posiesflowertruck.com.
