GOING ONCE: BURCHARD GALLERIES AUCTION

Novelist Allan Garganus once said, “Collections collect collectors. It doesn’t work the other way around." Find proof at Burchard Galleries auction, where there’s something for just about any collector. There will be more than 100 works to choose from, as well as furniture, antiques, St. Petersburg ephemera, tons of books and jewelry and a selection of vintage bicycles, pictured. Free. AFROCENTRIC: BLACK FASHION MARKET

In honor of Black History Month, there’s an uptick of African fashions celebrated at local events. Tampa’s Fashion Market is focusing on black fashion and apparel made from colorful African fabrics that range from more traditional garb like dashikis to edgy Afro Punk styles. Designers include Melanated Millionaire and Bella Nella Fashion. Find urban couture, sun dresses, robes and accessories and visit the artists in their studios of the former cigar factory. DO WHAT’CHA WANNA: MARDI GRAS AT THE MALL

Feel like funking it up for Mardi Gras but can’t make it to New Orleans? Celebrate locally at Mardi Gras at the Mall — the Skyway Marina Mall, that is. Dress in festive masks, feathers and beads and shop from more than 35 vendors. There will be about 30 items up for auction. Enjoy live music inside and outside and food from Chief’s Creole.
