Happy New Year! With the big party night falling on a Monday, the weekend is alive with activities for adults and families alike. Here are some ideas to help you celebrate the final days of 2018.

Celebrity sparkle

Mario Lopez returns for a second year as the host of Pied Piper Productions' New Year's Eve party, with a dual-barge fireworks show over the bay. The stylish Godfrey Hotel (the newly remodeled former Bay Harbour Hotel once owned by George Steinbrenner), the setting for the party, is located on more than 6 acres of waterfront property on Rocky Point. DJ Magic Mike and Aaron Lesage will entertain. $29-$59, $155 VIP. Festivities start at 9 p.m. Monday at 7700 W Courtney Campbell Causeway, Tampa. (813) 265-1234. piedpiperproductions.com.

Families and First Night

For 26 years, St. Petersburg has rung in the new year with the alcohol-free First Night St. Petersburg, a family-oriented celebration of the arts that includes music, live art and entertainment at more than 10 venues around downtown. Don't miss the bubble wrap stomp (7:45 p.m.), the event's first Silent Disco at the Hampton Inn, aerial arts and short films in Williams Park, a scavenger hunt, a bedtime-friendly fireworks show at 8 p.m. and a second one at midnight. It's free to wander around, but you need a button to participate in activities and enter venues. Organizers point out that the buttons help fund the annual event, which relies heavily on volunteers. See firstnightstpete.com for a schedule and to find out where to buy buttons. $12-$15, $5-$10 ages 6-12, 5 and younger free. Activities start at 4 p.m. Monday at Straub Park, Beach Drive and Fifth Avenue NE, St. Petersburg. (727) 823-8906.

That's a wrap

The historic Tampa Theatre puts a Hollywood spin on its third NYE Wrap Party, this year with an Austin Powers theme. It will be "groovy baby" when the movie palace goes shagadelic with appetizers, desserts, music by Underground Pilot, a ball drop viewing on the big screen and an open beer and wine bar with Austin Powers-themed cocktails (Mini-Me-mosas, anyone?). $99, $89 members. The event is from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. Monday at Tampa Theatre, 711 Franklin St., Tampa. (813) 274-8982. tampatheatre.org.

Eyes wide shut

Masquerade parties and Venetian masks are trendy this year, with their long history of protecting their wearer's identity during decadent activities. Caliente nudist resort is throwing a Venetian-style formal ball in Land O'Lakes. Mandarin Hide in downtown St. Petersburg is having Manny's Masquerade Party, and Channelside's Araliya is throwing a Bond-themed party called Goldeneye: The 007 Masquerade Ball. Get some practice on Saturday at the Masquerade Bar Crawl with a party bus starting at 4 p.m. at American Social on the Riverwalk in Tampa. Clearly there's a lot to hide this year.
