David Smiley is the Miami Herald's political reporter. He was born in Stuart, Florida, and joined the newspaper in 2007 after graduating from Florida International University. Before covering politics, he wrote about breaking news, crime, Miami-Dade public schools, and held the city hall beats in Miami Beach and the city of Miami.
