Sure, David Warner was great in ‘Times Bandits’ but …

Do '80s fans really have to continue giving the movie their everlasting love?

I did it again. On the most recent episode of Stuck in the '80s, I made a quick and unplanned comment about Time Bandits, and I've been bum-rushed by the '80s intelligentsia, demanding I retract any negative feelings toward the 1981 flick. Stop the emails! I surrender.

Confession: I love every line from David Warner as Evil: "God isn't interested in technology. He cares nothing for the microchip or the silicon revolution. Look how he spends his time, forty-three species of parrots! Nipples for men!"

Did Warner make a single bad performance in the '80s? Time Bandits. TRON. The Man With Two Brains. Even My Best Friend is a Vampire!

I get beat up regularly by longtime fans (and newbie fans) who can't comprehend that at the age of 15, I didn't want to sit through The Goonies or E.T. But yet, I can still give you my top 5 favorite lines from Road House or Valley Girl. I maintain Time Bandits is a hard movie to love – at least then. Terry Gilliam's work is a little beyond that of the 14-year-old brain back in 1981. I'm sure the family room at the old household was clicked off promptly upon hearing that line about God back then. But hey, I'll give it another try. So long as you agree to listen to this week's episode on The Untouchables. (Sean Connery connection – get it?)

BTW, Warner is still going at it. Look for him in 2018 as "Admiral Boom" in Mary Poppins Returns.
