THAT's not a sequel, Department of Australia Tourism. Now THIS is a sequel, says actor Paul Hogan, who announced he'll return again as Crocodile Dundee.
Movieweb.com says the film will be called The Very Excellent Mr. Dundee and will pick up the story of everyone's favorite Australian as he prepares to be knighted for his career. (Movieweb says its sort of meta in the sense that the storyline would seem to follow the actor's career rather than the bushman's career.)
In making the announcement, Hogan (now 78 years old and divorced from his co-star Linda Kozlowski) said: "I've been honored to have many of my friends and colleagues, whose work I adore, agree to join us for this hilarious new adventure."
The original 1986 film was a surprise hit and became the second-highest grossing film of the year. Two sequels failed to recapture the magic. But a Super Bowl ad campaign – starring Danny McBride and Chris Hemsworth – relit the interest in the franchise.
No filming schedule or release date has been set yet for The Very Excellent Mr. Dundee.
