The success of The Little Mermaid helped relaunch the animation business in the late '80s, so it was just a matter of time before it was tapped for a live-action remake. We just didn't expect Lady Gaga to be involved.

According to The Dis Insider, Gaga has been approached by Disney for the role of Usula, the villain. With the glowing reviews for her work in A Star is Born, this sure seems like a no-brainer.

Alan Menken and Lin-Manuel Miranda will handle the music for the film, including the addition of some new tunes, says Dis Insider. And Rob Marshall (Mary Poppins Returns) is set to direct.

The original 1989 animated feature film told the story of a mermaid named Ariel who dreamed of becoming human. To do so, she cuts a deal with a "sea witch" named Ursula, who agrees to make her human for three days.

There's no release date yet for The Little Mermaid remake.
