The Bucs were dealt some bad news on defense Friday when cornerback Brent Grimes suffered a groin strain.

Grimes, 35, is listed as doubtful for Sunday's season opener at New Orleans. The Bucs Pro Bowl player was not on the injury report until Friday.

The injury to Grimes leaves the Bucs in a bad position considering they are facing Hall of Fame QB Drew Brees.

The Bucs will likely turn to rookie Carlton Davis or veteran CB Ryan Smith.

Tackle Donovan Smith is questionable with a knee strain.

Cornerback De'Vante Harris (hamstring) is doubtful. Defensive tackle Vita Vea (calf) is out.
