The hard hits keep coming for the Bucs.

Having already placed CB Vernon Hargreaves on injured reserve with a season-ending shoulder injury, the Bucs could be missing several other starters Sunday against the Eagles.

DE Jason Pierre Paul has a brace on his right knee after being injured in the first quarter of the Bucs' 48-40 win at New Orleans.

"My knee is jacked up," Pierre-Paul said. "Banged up. Ask me if I can play Sunday, I don't know."

WR DeSean Jackson, who had five catches for 146 yards and two touchdowns Sunday, is in concussion protocol and did not practice Wednesday. He also has a shoulder injury.

Also held out of practice was CB Brent Grimes (groin) and DT Vita Vea (calf), the Bucs' first-round pick.

The Bucs signed DE Will Clarke, who had 2.5 sacks in 15 games for the team last season. He spent the offseason with the Bucs until he was released on the final roster cut down day.

Defensive coordinator Mike Smith says the defense has to be better across the board.

"The other parts of the game that we've got to improve on were very obvious," Smith said. "We did not cover well, we weren't consistent with our pass rush, we weren't consistent with our pass rush schemes. Those are all areas we can improve. I will state that I thought our young guys, for the situation they were put into, handled it pretty well."

Saints quarterback Drew Brees went 37-of-45 passing for 439 yards and three touchdowns Sunday.
