Jameis Winston has hired agent Joel Segal, one day before he is set to return from a three-game suspension.

In July, shortly after suspension was announced, Winston fired representatives Greg Genske and Kenny Felder, a pair of baseball agents who had limited football experience. They had represented Wisnton since his rookie season.

Winston initiated the move. He's been interviewing potential replacements for the past several weeks and chose Segal, who represents several Bucs players including DeSean Jackson, Vernon Hargreaves, Kendell Beckwith and rookie Carlton Davis.

The Bucs already have picked up Winston's fifth-year option worth about $20 million that is only guaranteed against injury.

Segal could be instrumental in negotiating a longer-term deal. He also could assist in helping Winston find new legal counsel for his impending civil case. Last week, the Uber driver who alleged she was sexually abused by Winston in 2016 filed a civil suit against the Bucs quarterback seeking damages in excess of $75,000.
