Oregon fans hoping Willie Taggart will remain in Eugene tried cobbling optimism from a tweet he sent out Saturday suggesting he was looking forward to the Ducks' bowl game and upcoming practice.

One website even portrayed the tweet as a sign the former Bulls coach was staying put. But based on Taggart's prior Twitter patterns, it may be the strongest indicator yet he's gone.

Scott McLean, whose Twitter handle indicates he's an Oregon State fan, found — and tweeted — two similar messages sent by Taggart during his final days at Western Kentucky and USF.

One, indicating he was looking forward to WKU's first bowl practice, was sent late in the afternoon of Dec. 4, 2012. Five days later, Taggart formally was announced as new Bulls coach.

Another, indicating he was enthusiastic about USF making the Birmingham Bowl, was sent in the wee hours of Dec. 5, 2016. On Dec. 7, Taggart was announced as Oregon coach.

Taggart is still believed to be the primary target in FSU's coaching search, though Virginia Tech's Justin Fuente and USF's Charlie Strong also have been widely mentioned as candidates.
