River Ridge High School in western Pasco County went into "controlled campus" mode Wednesday morning after a student heard a rumor that someone had brought a gun to campus. It lasted about two hours.
"We are using an abundance of caution because children are our highest priority," the school district stated on its official Facebook page.
The school's resource officer investigated and found no weapons. The school went back to normal shortly afterward.
Many parents had spread the word throughout social media while awaiting the outcome. Several expressed their nervousness on the district Facebook page, and their relief at the result.
