Sometimes petty disputes among board members seem to get in the way of more weighty concerns.

The Hillsborough County school district, eighth largest in the nation, has plenty of concerns, such as persistent low reading scores in several schools and ongoing financial woes. Its school board would like to seek help from the community, perhaps in the form of a tax referendum, but its political antics continue to raise questions of confidence in the leadership.

The latest flash point: Leaked Facebook messages from one board member's account, published in a local weekly newspaper whose publisher is linked to another board member.
