Cambridge Christian junior Latanna Stone made a run at the Class A state championship but fell five shots short. Stone shot a second round 3 under 69 on the Las Colinas course at the Mission Inn and Resort in Howey-in-the-Hills Wednesday and finished 4 under overall with a 71-69–140. Ariel Yu of Orlando First Academy won the individual tournament with a 9 under 68-67–135, three shots ahead of teammate Sophie Guo. Indian Rocks Christian senior Bianca Sol Cruz finished tied for 15th with a 4 over 74-74–148.
In the team championship, Tampa Prep was the highest finishing local team with a two-day score of 51 over 680. Lilly Berry was 5 over with a 76-73–149 to lead the Terrapins. Julie Zhang was 13 over (79-78–157).
Clearwater Central Catholic finished a respectable fifth in the boys tournament with a 52 over 628 on the El Campeon course. Clark Lea shot a second round 73 and finished tied for 15th overall with a 150. Thomas Salanito shot an 81-76–157. Winter Park Circle Christian won the tournament with a 4 under 580.
Berkeley Prep's Alex Ogle, a seventh-grader, shot another 83 and finished tied for 57th with a 166. Garrett Barber of Hobe Sound Pine School shot a 10 under 134 to win the tournament by six shots. He shot a second round 7 under 65 to pull away.
