Lightning captain Steven Stamkos and wing Nikita Kucherov might be the most dynamic duo in the league right now.
And people are taking notice, with Stamkos named the NHL's first star of the month and Kucherov the second star. The Blues' Jaden Schwartzz was the third.
Stamkos, 27, has everyone forgetting about the knee surgery that sidelined him for most of last season. He leads the NHL with 18 assists and 24 points in 13 games. He registered a point in 12 of his first 13 games. Stamkos' linemate Kucherov leads the league with 13 goals (and second to only Stamkos with 21 points), having scored in 11 of the 13 games, including the first seven games, the longest such streak by a player since the 1992-93 season.
Kucherov and Stamkos became just the seventh set of teammates in league history – and first since 1992-93 – to open a season with an 11-game points streak.
The Lightning, off to a 10-2-1 start, will face the Rangers Thursday at Amalie Arena.
