The Lightning got some good news Monday on veteran defenseman Dan Girardi, as he's considered day-to-day after all tests came back negative.

It certainly looked like it could have been much worse when Girardi got hit in the back of the neck with a rocket slap shot from Red Wings' Martin Frk in Sunday's 5-2 win in Detroit.

"One of the scariest things I've ever seen in hockey," coach Jon Cooper said.

Girardi was on the ice for several minutes, attended two by trainers for both teams, before skating off the ice. Teammates were encouraged when Girardi was cracking jokes at intermission, acting like himself.  More on Girardi's injury, and the game, here.

"The usual 'G'," Ryan Callahan said.

Girardi traveled back with the team after Sunday's game. His availability for Tuesday's game against Carolina is unknown. Tampa Bay has just two more games before its five-day bye week, so Girardi could have longer time to rest.
