One round of cuts down, several more to go.
The Lightning cut seven players on Wednesday, five of whom were training camp invitees, the team announced. All seven players were assigned to juniors.
Gabriel Fortier was the most notable cut. The Lightning's second-round pick in the 2018 draft, Fortier played in the 4-1 preseason loss to Carolina on Tuesday. He was called for hooking in the first period, which led to a second Hurricane goal. The Lightning assigned him to Baie-Comeau of the QMJHL, where he has played the past two seasons.
Also included in the cuts were 2018 seventh-round draft pick Radim Salda and invitees Jackson Leppard, Matthew MacDougall, Chase Wouters, Walter Flower and Montana Onyebuchi.
The Lightning has 54 players remaining on the roster. That number will reach 23 by the start of the season when Tampa Bay faces the Florida Panthers on Oct. 6.
