1. Can we get rid of replays for offside calls … please? For the second Tampa Bay game in the row, a goal was reviewed for offside. The Lightning benefited both times. Still, these challenges waste time, and even when the player is ever so slightly offside, it doesn't impact the play. Let the linesmen do their job.

2. Lightning D Ryan McDonagh is a beast. That's a compliment. And it's not that he did one special thing Friday. It's his entire game, every game. He picked up extra minutes with Victor Hedman leaving the game in the second period with an injury, and he could be relied on even more if Hedman is out for any length of time.

3. Coach Jon Cooper has not put this team on autopilot. He is working hard this season. He hasn't been afraid to tinker with lines, such as putting Steven Stamkos, Nikita Kucherov and Brayden Point on a line Friday. Each of his moves has been masterful and shows he isn't content (and won't let this team become content) with the status quo.
