Lightning’s Brayden Point doesn’t nab the fan vote for All-Star spot

Brayden Point did everything he possibly could to earn that final spot on the Atlantic Division roster for the NHL All-Star Game.

The center had two straight multiple-goal, three-point games in the final days of voting for the "Last Man In." And he has scored six goals over the past five games. For the season, Point has 28 goals and 60 points.

Fan votes are tricky things, however. The league announced that Buffalo Sabres left wing Jeff Skinner, who has 29 goals and 42 points, is the final addition to the Atlantic on Friday. This is Skinner's second time as an All-Star.

For the Lightning, winger Nikita Kucherov and center Steven Stamkos were already selected to the team, and goalie Andrei Vasilevskiy replaced Montreal's Carey Price.

"Obviously I'm very thankful to everyone that's voted to try to get me in," Point said before voting closed Thursday night. "It's pretty incredible. Regardless if I get in or not, it's just cool to know that they voted and are rooting for our team."

Victor Hedman had made one more bid. As he finished his interview, he looked at the clock and said he was going to go get another vote in.

The other players selected by the last-chance vote are: Colorado Avalanche left wing Gabriel Landeskog (Central), Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Kris Letang (Metropolitan) and Edmonton Oilers center Leon Draisaitl (Pacific).
