ICYMI: Demi Lovato cancels tour, Brad Pitt says he’s given Angelina Jolie millions since split

Here's some entertainment (and entertaining) news you might've missed this week.

Demi Lovato cancels tour dates to focus on recovery

Demi Lovato has canceled the rest of her fall tour to focus on her recovery.
The singer was scheduled to perform in Mexico in September and in South America in November, but announced Thursday that she would not perform the shows.

Over the weekend Lovato checked out of the hospital she was rushed to on July 24 for a reported overdose. The 25-year-old wrote a lengthy post Sunday on Instagram, saying she remains committed to overcoming addiction.

‘Superman’ star Margot Kidder’s death ruled a suicide

Margot Kidder, who was most famous for playing Lois Lane in Superman, died by suicide, her daughter confirmed Wednesday.

Kidder, 69, was found dead in her home on May 13 "as a result of a self-inflicted drug and alcohol overdose," according to a coroner.

Kidder's daughter, Maggie McGuane, said she'd known since she found out about the death. "It's a big relief that the truth is out there," she said. "It's important to be open and honest so there's not a cloud of shame in dealing with this."

A longtime mental health advocate, Kidder was open about her bipolar disorder, including during a public nervous breakdown in 1996.

Tiffany Trump and Lindsay Lohan have been hanging out

Tiffany Trump, the younger daughter of President Donald Trump, spent several days last week vacationing in Greece alongside one Lindsay Lohan, the former child star turned Hollywood cautionary tale. This apparently was a big deal. People, New York magazine, Page Six and Vanity Fair all had something to say about the unlikely pairing, which was first reported in a New York Times profile in which Lohan and Tiffany Trump were referred to as old friends.

The collective reaction was a sophisticated "huh?" But was it that weird? Not really. Trump, 24, has a lot of moneyed friends who seem untethered by 9-to-5 jobs and other adult milestones. So what's the fuss?

The idea that the president's daughter, though grown-up she may be, is palling around with a reformed bad girl seems to be the major plot point here. Despite not living in (or working at or incessantly tweeting about) the White House, Tiffany Trump is still a member of the first family, long the picture-perfect mascots of American exceptionalism. The potential for a headline about a wild night at Lohan's newly opened beach club on the island of Mykonos was overripe.

But nothing really salacious happened – at least not on social media.

Brad Pitt says he has given Angelina Jolie Pitt millions since split

Brad Pitt said in court documents Wednesday that he has given estranged wife Angelina Jolie Pitt more than $1 million and lent her another $8 million since their separation two years ago, countering her assertion from a day earlier saying he has paid "no meaningful child support."

Pitt's attorneys said in the two-page document filed in Los Angeles Superior Court that he "adamantly disputes the contention that he has not paid significant child support." The document added that he loaned Jolie Pitt $8 million to buy her current home, and has paid over $1.3 million in bills for the benefit of Jolie Pitt and their six children.

Jolie Pitt's attorneys said in their own court filing Tuesday that Pitt has failed to live up to their informal financial arrangements and she'll seek a court order to get retroactive payments from him.

Ludacris likes to buy people groceries at Whole Foods

Last week, a woman named Therra Gwyn Jaramillo described, over the course of more than 1,200 words on Facebook, how a man named Chris had bought her groceries at Whole Foods — $375 worth — in a moment of grave need. (She was strapped, and a friend had sent her to the expensive store with a $250 gift card.)

She had not recognized her benefactor at first. But soon, the cashier told her that the Chris who bought her groceries was, in fact, Ludacris.

The story was no doubt heartwarming. But was it true? What would Ludacris even be doing at a Whole Foods? Does he do his own shopping? Does he prefer 365 Everyday Value Almond Butter to other brands?

Well, apparently the New York Times investigated, and the answer to all of the above is apparently yes or probably yes. Luda does do his own shopping, is spotted in grocery stores an awful lot and does buy people groceries.

Rejoice, dancing queens: Cher’s ABBA cover album will be released next month

Cher, quite frankly, is still having the time of her life.

On Wednesday, the pop legend announced that her ABBA cover album, Dancing Queen, goes on sale Sept. 28. Then, on Thursday, she released its first song: an electric, bass-thumping rendition of the band's 1979 song Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man After Midnight). (And if that main riff sounds familiar, yes, Madonna sampled it for her 2005 hit "Hung Up.")

The Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again star's social media accounts also were awash with a marquee of twinkling lights bearing her name in ABBA-style animations. The star-studded film has enjoyed a wave of positive reviews – it's 80 percent fresh on Rotten Tomatoes – and an impressive $238 million at the global box office since its release in mid July. Here's to Cher's cover songs getting a similar reception.
