UPDATED, 12:20: Cash said C Nick Ciuffo won't be eligible to play in any more major-league spring training games (ones in which admission is charged) based on MLB clarifying a rule regarding suspended players. Ciuffo faces a 50-game suspension for failing an off-season drug test, only players with 40 game or lesser penalties are eligible. … Cash said the decision to DFA INF Ryan Schimpf to make room Saturday on the 40-man roster for OF Carlos Gomez  was more of "a numbers game" and not reflective of Schimpf's performance. Cash said the Rays "selfishly" hope that Schimpf gets through waivers and stays in their organization. … Bauers said he played enough outfield last year at AAA Durham that he feels totally comfortable there.
