UPDATE, 10:45: INF Daniel Robertson was out Friday for a scheduled follow-up medical visit for the neck issues that sidelined him last year and said all went well, with a plan to return to the lineup Sunday. … The big hit in the clubhouse this morning was a St. Patrick's Day cake baked by RHP Nathan Eovaldi's wife, which featured a chocolate pot of gold.

DEVELOPING: Spring training is all about getting reps, and today the Rays apparently will practice the "bullpen day" approach they plan to employ during at least the start of the season in place of a fifth starter.

So for today that means they will start the game with a couple of the pitchers competing for the four multi-inning reliever slots in  their bullpen – Austin Pruitt and Andrew Kittredge.

Also scheduled to throw against a Boston team the Rays will face in the first four games of the regular season and seven of their first nine, are six pitchers who don't seem likely to make the opening day roster: Ryne Stanek, Jonny Venters, Kyle Bird, Ian Gibaut, Cody Hall and Adam Kolarek.

Also of note today, Brad Miller is playing for the first time since Feb. 23, having been sidelined by the residual "lower body" issues on his running from his earlier broken toe.

Here is the Rays lineup:
Hechavarria ss
Wong 3b
Gomez dh
Miller 1b
Sucre c
Johnson 2b

Pruitt p

And here is the Red Sox lineup:
