UPDATE, 12:06: The Rays have 36 players remaining on the spring roster, with RHP Jose De Leon headed to the DL, and C Curt Casali headed for sure to Triple-A Durham. So that leaves nine players to be sent down or shipped out as they have to submit a 25-man roster on Thursday morning.

The biggest decisions seems to be for the final spot in the bullpen and the final outfield spot.

With bullpen jobs seemingly set for Alex Colome, Sergio Romo, Chaz Roe, Jose Alvarado and Matt Andriese, that leaves openings for three other multi-inning relievers.

The pool of candidates seems to be RH Yonny Chirinos, RH Andrew Kittredge, RH Austin Pruitt and LH Ryan Yarbrough, though LH Dan Jennings has been considered. Other relievers on the roster include a  pair of veterans who don't seem to have spots on the team, LH Jonny Venters and RH Daniel Hudson.

As for the final outfield job, lefty-hitting Micah Johnson has had a good spring, but the Rays would prefer a right-handed hitter and have three in-house options in Jason Coats, minor-leaguer Johnny Field and Brandon Snyder, but also may be looking oustide. A reunion with Peter Bourjos, who was released by the Cubs, has been discussed.

UPDATE, 10:34: Cash said cuts are coming today, that "it's been challenging no doubt." They don't "value spring training results may be as some others do" but you "can't just overlook" players who had good springs.

Among position players Cash said have had good springs were Johnny Field and Micah Johnson. He mentioned several pitchers as well.

DEVELOPING: The Rays wrap up the Port Charlotte portion of their spring today on what should be a busy day.

Not only are they playing the Yankees, and not only is the game on Fox Sports Sun and 620-AM radio and not only is the MLB Network 30 camps in 30 days crew here, but the Rays are expected to make most of the cuts to get close to a 25-man final roster.
