The Rays have lefty Wilson Alvarez on the mound and Wade Boggs, who is inching toward 3,000 hits at third base and Quinton McCracken in center. Wait, being told that was 20 years ago.
But those three are at the Trop, as are other members from the inaugural Devil Rays team that kicked off this party that is Major League Baseball in Tampa Bay on March 31, 1998.
Pregame ceremony honoring the team begins at 5:45. Alvarez will throw out the first pitch, just as he did 20 years ago against the Tigers.
The Rays will honor the original squad by wearing the original jerseys for tonight's game against the Red Sox.
The starting pitchers have ruled the day during the first two games of this four-game set.
The Rays will employ their first bullpen day of the season with RHP Andrew Kittredge getting the start. Manager Kevin Cash said he could reasonably expect a 55-pitch effort from Kittredge, who pitched 2 2/3 innings in each of his last two spring training outings.
Kittredge will be followed by another multi-inning pitcher, likely RHP Yonny Chirinos or LHP Ryan Yarbrough.
In a perfect world, Kittredge gives the Rays three innings. Chirinos or Yarbrough gives them three than Cash can piece together the final three with the short arms in a rested bullpen.
Here are the lineups:
Porcello RHP (11-17, 4.65 in 2017)
Kittredge RHP (0-1, 1.76 in 2017)
