UPDATE, 4:23: Newly promoted OF Johnny Field makes his major-league debut tonight in a different looking Rays lineup. With veteran OF Denard Span out due to feeling "a little achy," manager Kevin Cash wanted to alternate left-and right-handed hitters more, so he has Mallex Smith leading off and moved Carlos Gomez up to second and Kevin Kiermaier down to third. … INF Brad Miller (groin strain) took BP on the field, did some running and said he hopes to return Friday. … Closer Alex Colome declined to comment on how Friday's game or the struggles he has been having, but said he feels fine.

Here is the Rays lineup:

DEVELOPING: The Rays will try to bounce back from another staggering one-run loss tonight when they take on the Phillies with a 6:10 first pitch.

It will be a battle of top starters, as the Rays send Chris Archer to the mound against Jake Arrieta, who makes his second appearance for the Phillies after signing late in spring training.

Here a few Rays notes:

* The 3-10 record is worst 13-game start in franchise history.

* Nine of the Rays 13 games have been decided by 1 run, and they are 2-7. The 7 1-run losses are by far most in majors.

* The Rays are first team to play 9 one-run games in their first 13 since the 1998 Phillies, and 6th since 1908 to play at least 9 in their first 13.

* The Rays are the first AL team since 1908 and 2nd overall to lose at least 7 of first 13 by one run. The other was the 1986 Dodger
